The Institute of Designers in Ireland embraces a wide a range of members working across the design disciplines. We aim to promote professional standards and uphold the code of practice on which our reputation is founded. We aim to secure and maintain recognition for the design profession, to promote our members and a greater understanding of the role of design as a key to future economic success in Ireland.
Members who previously joined the IDI mid-year (eg. renewed their membership annually in September 2011) can now pay a pro-rata reduction in their 2012 membership fee (Example: A member who paid €225 during September 2011, would now pay 4 months membership for a full year of 2012 Annual Membership i.e. €18.75 x 4 = €75.). Membership will be renewed at the normal rate in January 2013 onwards. To avail of this reduction complete the form below and on the Payment Option Screen (step 3) select the option 'I have previously renewed my membership mid-year).

WHO CAN JOIN
Membership of the Institute of Designers is open to all students, graduates, and professionals who can satisfy it's entry requirements.
Currently there are over 300 members from a wide range of disciplines, including graphic design, interactive design, product design, interior design, fashion and textile design as well as design management and those involved in design education.
All applicants for Membership of the Institute shall be citizens of Ireland or be resident in Ireland. To ensure that Membership remains meaningful, the Institute lays down a Code of Professional Conduct, observance of which is a condition of Membership.
RATIFICATION BY IDI MEMBER
Where possible application forms must be ratified by a current member of the Institute who is familiar with the work of the applicant. In some cases it may not be possible to give the names of a member of the Institute thoroughly familiar with the applicant’s work. In this event the application may still be made. Such cases will be assessed by the Honorary Secretary and Executive Officer, and, if deemed necessary, the applicant will be invited to a meeting with the membership Committee.
HOW AN APPLICATION IS PROCESSED
Applications may be made at any point throughout the year.
On receipt of an application the Institute issues an email of acknowledgement and, if necessary, a request for additional information and/or support material. If an applicant does not respond to a request for appropriate, supporting material his/her application will not be processed further.
In the event that an application has been ratified by a current member and no other questions arise, membership may be awarded within four weeks. Should an application be referred to the Membership Committee for further assessment, ratification of membership may take up to 12 weeks.
In some cases a meeting with the candidate and a review of his or her work will be recommended. The Membership Committee reviews portfolios twice yearly, and at other times should specific needs arise. These scheduled reviews take place in April and October.
The Membership Committee consists of a number of IDI Council representatives and is chaired by an IDI Officer.
SUBSCRIPTION RENEWALS
Membership runs from 1st January – 31 December each year. Membership is due on 1st January each year.
